Dr. P. VENKATESHA MURTHY, Professor of Horticulture, 25 years of service in Teaching, Research and Extension in the University of Agricultural Sciences, Bengaluru. Completed Ph.D. Horticulture degree with distinction (9.50/10.00) from UAS, Bengaluru during March 1997 and Awarded certificate of appreciation for excellent studies in Ph.D. Research from Fertigation project, Kemira Agro Oy, Finland & Kemira Horticulture England and UAS, Bangalore.

60 Horticulture courses have been offered for both UG and PG students and Guidance for 55 PG students were given as Chairman and Member of the Advisory Committee in the University.

Research Projects Concluded As Project Leader and Co- Investigator on Horticulture:

As resource person the Extension work carried: 31 Nos Training Programme Organized (As Coordinator-16 & Co-coordinator-15), 367 Nos Farm Advisory, 64 Nos Training Programme Talk delivered (Resource Person), 18 Nos. Field Day Organized, 13 Nos. Radio talks and Doordarshan programme.

One of the most eye catching sculptures is the sculpture of Dr. Gottlieb Haberlandt who for his findings in plant tissue culture and for the development of the concept of totipotency has rightly been called as the “Father of Plant Tissue Culture”. This sculpture also happens to be the second sculpture of Dr. Haberlandt in the whole world. The first being the one in his native, Austria.

Served as RWEP Coordinator, PG Coordinator, Coordinator (External Examination), State Educational Tour Leader and Head of the Department in the University.

Actively involved in the maintenance of bulk crops of Sapota (19.00ha), Guava (1.20ha), Rubber (3.00ha) and Cashew (2.00ha), the highest yield and monetary returns were obtained from these crops and appreciated by the Associate Director of Research in the University.

Presently, Head of the Campus Beautification Programme, In-charge Plant Tissue Culture Laboratory, Garden and Nursery Management at Department of Horticulture in the University.
